这32万多中国学生,有41.3%是本科留学生,37.5%是研究生留学,15.9%是OPT,5.3%是其他。这也是连续第二年,赴美读本科的中国学生人数多于读研学生。

In the 2015/16 academic year, 328,547 students from China were studying
in the United States (up 8% from the previous year). China remains the
leading place of origin for students coming to the United States for the
seventh year in a row, comprising 31.5% of all international students
studying in the U.S.

Academic Level: The U.S. continues to experience a growing number of
undergraduate students from China and a new upsurge of recent graduates
undertaking Optional Practical Training . In 2015/16, 41.3%

Beijing,November 14, 2013– The numberof Chinese students enrolled in
U.S. institutions of higher education in 2012/13increased from 194,029
to 235,597. Thisrepresents 41,600 additional Chinese students who chose
to study in the UnitedStates, a 21 percent increase, over the previous
year. This is according to the 2013 Open Doors Report onInternational
Education Exchange (Open Doors), the annual report oninternational
academic mobility published by the Institute of InternationalEducation
(IIE) with support from the Bureau of Educational and CulturalAffairs of
the United States Department of State, which also indicated thatChina
remains first among all countries sending students to the United

It is also the ninth consecutive year that Open Doors has reportedan
increase in the total number of Chinese students studying in U.S.
highereducation institutions, which has been growing at an average rate
of 16.5percent since 2005. There are 40percent more international
students studying at U.S. colleges and universitiesthan there were a
decade ago, and the rate of enrollment has risen steadily forthe past
three years. A similar increasein the number of “new” international
students, those enrolling for the firsttime at a U.S. college or
university in Fall 2013, indicates that this growthtrend continues. New
enrollments in 2013 were up 10 percent from the prior year,following a
seven percent increase in 2011/12. Despite the increases in recentyears,
international students still make up slightly fewer than four percent
ofthe 21 million students enrolled at the graduate and undergraduate
levels inthe United States。

U.S. Ambassador to China GaryLocke confirmed that “the United States

The growth in the number of international students studying in theUnited
States is largely driven by sizeable increases in the number of
studentsfrom China, particularly at the undergraduate level. Chinese
studentenrollments increased by 21 percent in total, and by 26 percent
at theundergraduate level. Approximately41,600 new Chinese students
chose to study in the United States – the largestsingle-year increase
ever.

“International education promotes the relationship building andknowledge
exchange between people and communities in the United States andaround
the world that are necessary to solve global challenges,” said Evan
Ryan, Assistant Secretary ofState for Educational and Cultural Affairs.

“The connections made during internationaleducation experiences last a
lifetime.

International students enrich classrooms, campuses and communities
inways that endure long after students return to their home countries.
We encourage U.S. schools to continueto welcome more international
students to their campuses and to do more to makestudy abroad a reality
for all of their students。”

IIE’s President and CEO, Dr. Allan E. Goodmannoted that “International
students coming to study in the United States benefitfrom access to some
of the finest professors and research laboratories in theworld, and
Americans benefit substantially from the presence of
internationalstudents who bring their own unique perspectives and
knowledge to the classroomand the wider community。”

U.S. Students Studying Abroad

Open Doors also reported that 14,887 American students studied inChina
in the 2011/12 academic year, an increase of two percent. China remains
the fifth among the leadinghost destinations for Americans studying
abroad behind the UK, France, Italyand Spain, and ahead of Germany,
Australia and Japan. President Obama’s 100,000 Strong Initiative,now
part of a private foundation called the “100,000 Strong
Foundation,”continues seeking to prepare the next generation of American
experts on Chinawho will be charged with managing the growing political,
economic and culturalties between the United States and China. The
initiative also seeks to developspecific opportunities and funding
sources for underrepresented students tostudy in China。

The Open Doors Report ispublished by the Institute of International
Education, an independent,not-for-profit organization with a network of
19 offices and affiliatesworldwide and over 1,200 member institutions.
IIE has conducted an annualstatistical survey of the international
students in the United States since1919 and in partnership with the U.S.
